Redwood Hill Farm Goat Milk Kefir Social Nature Sampling !
It all began with founder of Redwood Hill Farm Jennifer Bice who raised goats on her family's dairy farm a little over 50 years ago.
Her mother Cynthia Bice and father Kenneth relocated the family in 1963 from urban Los Angeles to the redwoods of Sonoma County where they achieved their dream of going back to the land.
Then in 1964 Redwood Hill farm was born when they bought 2 acres of land on a once owned apple orchard where they established a homestead raising chickens, rabbits, ducks, pigs, goats and sheep.
In 1966 the Bice children began raising and showing goats through 4-H . Having a total of five or six gats each between them they found themselves with enough to lead a herd with an abundant of fresh goat's milk.
The oldest of the Bice children Jennifer was most passionate about raising goats taking an interest in their sweet and affectionate personalities where she then taught them tricks.
Later in 1968 the Bice's built their very own milking parlor and bottling room on their family farm and began selling raw goat milk in glass bottles to their local health food stores.
In 1970 Redwood Hill Farm introduced the nation's first goat milk kefir ever made!
In 1978 Jennifer Bice and her husband Steven Schack took over the goat dairy farm with a little over $250 to their names. Having the same values that her parents once shared they expanded the business bringing out more goat milk products and diversifying the dairy goat-breeding program as well.
In 1980 Raw goat milk feta was the first in a line or artisan cheeses.
In 1982 Redwood Hill Farm introduced the nation's first ever goat milk yogurt that to this day continues to be the best selling goat milk yogurt in the U.S.
In 1986 Jennifer and Steven win the Premier Breeder Award at the American Dairy Goat Association's National Show.
In 1992 Fresh ch'evre becomes the best seller in Redwood Hill Farm's line of artisan cheeses, as goat cheese became popular across the world it was influenced by the "California Cuisine" style of cooking.
Later in 1994 Redwood Hill Farm is the first in the U.S. to make a Camembert style cheese from goat's milk with the name Camellia after one of her first Saanen goats.
In 2000 the Bice siblings Scott , David, Shelley and Sharon team up to help Jennifer with the blossoming business.
In 2004 the company moved into a top of the line creamery in Sebastopl which is four miles south of the original farm.
In 2005 the original Redwood Hill Farm became the first goat dairy in the nation to become a Certified Humane which is an animal welfare certification that's awarded by Humane Farm Animal Care.
In 2010 Redwood Hill Farm & Creamery launches their sister brand Green Valley Organics, which is the only lactose-free organic line of real dairy products in the U.S. Not long after that the business went solar and installed 2,548 solar panels on the roof which provides 85% of it's electricity and the other is powered by renewable sources such as wind and geothermal. The farm installed the solar system that powers the entire operation.
In 2011 Jennifer Bice was admitted into the American Cheese Society Academy of Cheese as one of the eight pioneers of artisan goat cheese in the U.S.
In 2015 Redwood Hill Farm & Creamery has received swiss dairy maker, Emmi.
The 108 year old company by a landslide is owned by a cooperative of small-scale dairy farmers in Switzerland who farm between 10 and 50 cows.
In 2017 the first Jennifer Bice Artisan Dairy/Cheesemaker Grant is awarded to Erika McKenzie Chapter , head cheese maker of Pennyroyal Farm. The grant has been created with the intention to mentor and support the next generation of cheese makers in California.
Redwood Hill Farm created all sorts of creamy goat milk products from cheese, to yogurt and kefir !
I received a coupon redeemable for a free Kefir from Social Nature to try out and chose their vanilla and so glad I did because it's thick, sweet, and oh so creamy! It goes along perfectly in smoothies with any fruit from mixed berries, peaches and so much more!
